From Thursday (13.10.2022) to Saturday (15.10.2022) we hosted Professor Peter Droege, director of the Lichtenstein Institute for Strategic Development – an official partner in the project. In order to make the most of his knowledge and experience in the field of blue-green infrastructure in the city, we planned this time very intensively. The meetings were also attended by employees of the City Hall, the Utilities Department, the City Engineering Department and Councilors.

On the first day we showed Mr. Professor Mikołów, Katowice and Chorzów. We focused on the introduced solutions related to adaptation to climate change – examples were shown by Mr. Leszek Trząski, Deputy Director of the Silesian Botanical Garden. He drew our attention to good ideas, as well as those that did not necessarily work and should not be duplicated in a given form.

On the second day we met at the headquarters of the Silesian Botanical Garden. The lecture part was conducted by:

  • Dr. Paweł Kojs, director of the Silesian Botanical Garden;
  • Dr. Leszek Trząski, deputy director of the Silesian Botanical Garden;
  • Prof. Peter Droege, director of the Lichtenstein Institute for Strategic Development;
  • Piotr Cofałka, Deputy Director for Research and Development of IETU.

The group work was very dynamic, moderated by experts. The workshop resulted in an attempt to translate BZI intentions and other adaptation measures into the language of the city’s development strategy, to prepare structural and procedural solutions for the integration of “green” management, stormwater management and public space, as well as the use of open data and public participation in BZI planning and management. The whole day’s work ended with a joint lunch.
