The three Donor States are working closely with the EU under the European Economic Area (EEA) Agreement. Priorities are:

  • Innovation, research, education and competitiveness;
  • Social inclusion, youth employment and poverty reduction;
  • environment, energy, climate change and low-carbon economy;
  • culture, civil society, good governance and fundamental rights;
  • justice and home affairs.

The EEA Funds are jointly funded by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, whose contribution is based on their GDP. Eligibility for the funds is based on meeting criteria set by the EU Cohesion Fund, intended for member states with a gross domestic income per capita below 90% of the EU average.

“Mikolow for the Climate – implementation of blue-green infrastructure investments in the city” is a project implemented in partnership between the Municipality of Mikolow, the Liechtenstein Institute for Strategic Development and the Silesian Botanical Garden in Mikolow, benefiting from funding under the European Economic Area Funds representing the contribution of Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway to the creation of a green, competitive and inclusive Europe.

The value of the project is PLN 11659,207, including funding from:

  • EEA 8 423 777 PLN
  • state budget 1,486,548.89 PLN
  • WFOŚiGW in Katowice 167 000 PLN.

The aim of the project is to strengthen the city’s resilience to the effects of climate change by increasing the quality and consistency of the blue-green infrastructure network in public space.

Investments will be made combining the creation and restoration of greenery with retention and rainwater management. Mitigation and educational activities will also be undertaken.
