Mikołów together

The EEA Funds represent the contribution of Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway
to the creation of a Green, competitive and inclusive Europe. There are two general objectives:
to reduce economic and social inequality in Europe and to strengthen bilateral relations between
donor countries and the 15 EU countries of Central and Southern Europe and the Baltic Sea area.

ACTIONS

What steps are we taking to create
a blue-green Mikołów?

Adaptation activities
include:

  1. Development of green public spaces.
  2. Integrating greenery with urban infrastructure.
  3. Dissemination of blue-green solutions for stormwater management.

Mitigation activities
include:

  1. Promoting cycling as an alternative to cars and increasing the share of renewable energy in the municipal economy to reduce carbon emissions.
  2. Increasing the number of trees along transportation routes and in the city center, which absorb carbon dioxide from the air.
  3. Increasing the city’s biologically active area through revitalization and creation of an urban green system.

Assumed effects of the program:

  • Increase potential for adaptation, water retention and rainwater use;
  • Reduce the risk of local flooding, heat nuisance and urban heat island effect;
  • Improving the comfort of public spaces;
  • Increasing environmental awareness and social activity of residents.
